LESSONS FROM LAZARUS The Jesus Factor-1
John 11:2 “(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick)”
John 11:3 “So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.””
John 11:5 “Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.”
…From yesterday…
But then, as wealthy as Mary, Martha and Lazarus were they knew something many people in their class don’t! They had a relationship with Jesus!
They didn’t just profess to know Jesus by mouth, they had developed a personal relationship with him. They didn’t just know Jesus Christ, he knew them too.
John 10:14 “I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own sheep and my own sheep know me.”
John 10:27 “My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me.” (MSG)
These family was wealthy, but a situation arose that they couldn’t arrest. Money failed them, but they had a powerful relationship that could handle what money couldn’t handle for them.
They knew Jesus and had long developed a relationship with him before money failed! There is only one thing that cannot fail, it is your relationship with Jesus. When money and physical things fail, where or who do you turn to? Check your life, Selah.
From our focal scripture, we can also see that Mary had once given seed of spikenard oil to the Lord Jesus, which he cherished so much. Hear what Jesus said about what Mary did:
Mark 14:8 “She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.”
Mark 14:9 “Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, [this] also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.”
Mary didn’t just have a relationship with Jesus, she had also built a memorial unto God which would be remembered forever.
To be continued…
