Mighty, But Sick-3

John 11:1 “Now a certain man was sick named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.”
John 11:2 “(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick)”
…From yesterday…
Mary poured the expensive spikenard perfume on Jesus all at once. A whole year salary spent at a go. This is an indication of how wealthy Mary and Martha were; but despite all that, their brother was sick and they couldn’t help the situation.
Men and women of power, wealth and means can be put in a corner or a situation where money will fail completely; such was the scenario in this story.
It doesn’t matter who you are, you can be overtaken by a weakness. You can be boxed into a corner where you become helpless.
It is however not about the weakness; it is about what you allow God do with your weakness that matters. You may be a man of might but you are not Almighty. A life without the Almighty Jehovah God is a life in crisis.
Money and physical things can and will always fail. Don’t ever put your trust in them. Consider the story of Simon the sorcerer.
Acts 8:18 “And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,”
Acts 8:19 “Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.”
Acts 8:20 “But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”
If you rely so much on money and physical might to always get things done, I am afraid you’re suffering from “Simon the sorcerer syndrome”, which makes you a sorcerer too. There are things money cannot buy!
But then, as wealthy as Mary, Martha and Lazarus were they knew something many people in their class don’t!
To be continued…
