Titus 2:6 “Also, guide the young men to live disciplined lives.”(MSG)
Titus 2:6 “In a similar way, urge the younger men to be self-restrained and to behave prudently [taking life seriously].”(AMP)
Permit me to start this piece by this statement from Tom Landry, he said, “The job of a football coach is to make men do what they don’t want to do, in order to achieve what they’ve always wanted to be.”
My father in the Lord also said, “Successful people do by commitment, what failures do by convenience”.
The two statements are actually saying the same thing, they are both shouting the word discipline!
Both statements sounds paradoxical but very true. I have since realised that most times, the things that will make us great, healthy and successful are the things we really hate doing. Even the food that are very good for our health are the ones we hate eating.
Discipline simply means a controlled behaviour or self-control or restraint. In our focal scripture, Paul was admonishing his dear son Titus to live a disciplined life and to instruct his protégés to do same.
Friend, the key to a successful life is discipline. Jesus our most reliable mentor lived a disciplined life all through his stay on earth, no wonder we can’t stop talking about him.
Until you make up your mind to dogmatically live a life of discipline you won’t achieve much.
Another word for discipline is commitment. Commitment means you drive yourself like a slave master. You do what needs to be done whether you feel like it or not. Hear Paul:
2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.” (NLT)
