Who is in Your Boat?-9
Jonah 1: 4 “But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken”
Jonah 1: 5 “Then the mariners were afraid and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay and was fast asleep”
…From yesterday…
Luke 5:3 “And getting into one of the boats, [the one] that belonged to Simon (Peter), He requested him to draw away a little from the shore. Then He sat down and continued to teach the crowd [of people] from the boat.”
Luke 5:4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon (Peter), Put out into the deep [water], and lower your nets for a haul.
Luke 5:5 “And Simon (Peter) answered, Master, we toiled all night [exhaustingly] and caught nothing [in our nets]. But on the ground of Your word, I will lower the nets [again].”
In this encounter, we see again how miserable life can be when you don’t have the right man on board your ship. In the case of Jonah, those folks actually toiled and laboured and had goods, but lost everything to the turbulence caused by Jonah.
Here, however, they laboured in vain for not having the right man on board. They toiled all night trying to catch fish, but all effort was futile.
Your boat, as we have earlier established, could mean how you make a living, your career, profession, job, business or even your life generally. If you don’t have the right man on board your life, your life will be frustrating and full of miseries.
You will work and work but with nothing to show for it, and even when you do make something you will end up losing it. Having the wrong man on your boat is as deadly as not having the right man!
Peter and his folks were great and skilful fishermen, but the lack of the right man on board made their efforts useless.
To be continued…
