Who is in Your Boat?-7

Jonah 1: 4 “But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken”
Jonah 1: 5 “Then the mariners were afraid and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay and was fast asleep”
…From yesterday…
Jonah was after his own comfort alone. Do you have people like that in your life? I mean men who are in a relationship with you just for what they can get, men who are never there when challenges come. They vanish or pretend when the turbulence of life comes, as if they never met you.
You only see them when it is rosy. When you have money they hang around you, go out with you and brag about their love for you until the opposite happens. Once trouble comes knocking they avoid you like some plague.
In Luke chapter 15, we have the popular story of the prodigal son. When he left with his inheritance, he had several people in his boat, but immediately the wealth finished, they all disappeared.
He didn’t spend the money alone, he was left in the cold alone when the cash finished! They couldn’t even accommodate him, let alone offer him a job. How sad!
The sad thing about Jonah is that he was a Prophet that was living in disobedience.
Jonah 1:1 “One day long ago, GOD’s Word came to Jonah, Amittai’s son:”
Jonah 1:2 “Up on your feet and on your way to the big city of Nineveh! Preach to them. They’re in a bad way and I can’t ignore it any longer.”
Jonah 1:3 “But Jonah got up and went the other direction to Tarshish, running away from GOD. He went down to the port of Joppa and found a ship headed for Tarshish. He paid the fare and went on board, joining those going to Tarshish–as far away from GOD as he could get.”(MSG)
