God, on Your Terms-8
Deuteronomy 5:33 “Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and [that it may be] well with you, and [that] ye may prolong [your] days in the land which ye shall possess.”
Deuteronomy 5:33 “Walk straight down the road GOD commands so that you’ll have a good life and live a long time in the land that you’re about to possess.” (MSG)
…From yesterday…
Many have a premeditated idea of how the miracle should happen. They tend to want to dictate the terms to God. I call this the “Naaman syndrome”. I am sure you still remember that great Syrian war General:
2 Kings 5:9 “So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.”
2 Kings 5:10 “And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.”
Naaman was a decorated war General. He had several stars, having won several battles; but in spite of all his trophies, he was a leper.
2 Kings 5:1 “Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, [but he was] a leper.”
Friend, we all find ourselves with one type of leprosy or the other. You see people doing well in one area of life, but not doing so well at all in some others.
The word ‘leper’ as used here is from a Hebrew root word which means “to scourge”. Scourge means something that causes persistent trouble and inflicts pain. It also means a whip. There are many people suffering from this type of leprosy.
You see brilliant folks failing exams or even roaming the streets because they lack sponsorship in schools, rich men without wives or children, successful business people without peace, brilliant dedicated leaders, but with terrible character flaws.
To be continued…
