You become a god to yourself when you choose the instructions you like or think you should follow. What’s the point in serving a God you will not obey? Somebody captured it fittingly when he said, “When you choose what instruction of God to obey and which of His instruction to disobey, it is not God you are obeying, it is yourself you are obeying.”
I have seen initiates of deities follow instructions to the letter. I have seen them observe taboos as if their lives depend on it, yet those are gods they have carved for themselves. These are deities that have ears but cannot ear; they have eyes but cannot see.
You see them follow such gods dogmatically, yet you serve the living God, the Possessor of heaven and earth, but violate His instructions at will.
If an herbalist keeps taboos and abominations, but yet is fake, where do you think he got the idea from?
Your guess is as good as mine; he got it from the original, the Lord God Almighty!
Friend, our God sure has taboos and abominations; we call them “divine instructions”. These instructions are not meant to harm us, but rather to save us from destruction.
You cannot deal with God on your terms; the only thing He accepts is His terms!
Permit me to share an experience with you. I was once driving with my wife on a road I had not travelled for some years. I got lost. Things had really changed on that axis, so we were completely lost.
I struggled to find my way, but all efforts proved abortive. After struggling for some time, my wife suggested we asked for direction. So, I decided to ask. I approached a young man with all courtesy and humility, the kind of respect you show to anybody that is in a position to help you when you’re in a mess.
