God hit them with tumors; it was then it occurred to them they had touched naked fire! I suggest you read through the entire Chapter 5 of 1st Samuel. You will see what happened to them as they kept moving the Ark from place to place until they finally returned it to Israel.
Now, why this long story and what has this got to do with our focal scripture and you as a child of God?
Here is the gist:
Acts 7:48 “Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,”
Acts 17:24 “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;”
God said he has ceased to live in the physical Ark of covenants, not even in physical buildings!
So where is He?
1 Corinthians 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”
1 Corinthians 3:16 “You realize, don’t you, that you are the temple of God, and God himself is present in you?”(MSG)
2 Timothy 1:14 “That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”
Tying the two set of scriptures together, we understand that God is in you!
When you gave your life to Christ, God came in to dwell in you. You literally swallowed up the “Ark of covenant” (permit me to use that phrase).
That same power and force that brought Dagon to its knees and eventually cut off its head and hands is now in you!
