Little Foxes-6
Song of Solomon 2:15 “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines [have] tender grapes.”
Song of Solomon 2:15 “Our vineyards are in blossom; we must catch the little foxes that destroy the vineyards.”(CEV)
…From yesterday…
The second “little fox” is what I call the little fox of the tongue. What do I mean by this? Hear James again:
James 3:5 “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!”
James 3:6 “And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”
James 3:9 “Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.”
I quite agree with a Bible scholar who said that out of all the sins man commits, there are more sins associated with the tongue (speech) than any other part of our being.
These sins include blasphemy, lying, gossiping, cursing, and backbiting. Many people have used their “little tongue” to destroy themselves and others as well. Great relationships have been destroyed and wars have broken out just because a man spoke!
Hear James 3: in The Message translation:
James 3:6 “A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.” (MSG)
You will agree with me that words hurt. I’m sure you still remember some of the hurtful words spoken to you several years back, although you’ve forgiven whoever said them.
Beloved, a little matchstick can raze down a forest according to James. A little tongue can do irreparable damage to a life.
To be continued…
