1 Samuel 11:1 “Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.”



1 Samuel 11:2 “And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this [condition] will I make [a covenant] with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it [for] a reproach upon all Israel.”

…From yesterday…
In 1 Samuel 10 when he was to be anointed king, he ran away and hid himself. It took the intervention of heaven to find him. He was afraid and timid, but when the Spirit came upon him, he became another man.
Saul arranged a rag-tag, tattered army. Ill prepared without adequate tools! They must have looked so foolish and helpless. They must have looked like some mincemeat for the enemy.
Nahash and the Ammonites however were more organised and battle ready. They had a well trained army, and this was definitely not their first war. As a matter of fact, you don’t go to challenge or terrify a man in his home unless you’re well prepared.
But despite the short comings of his army, Saul remained undaunted. He organised his army and took the fight to the Ammonites!
1 Samuel 11:9 “Saul instructed the messengers, “Tell this to the folk in Jabesh Gilead: ‘Help is on the way. Expect it by noon tomorrow.'” The messengers set straight off and delivered their message. Elated, the people of Jabesh Gilead “sent word to Nahash: “Tomorrow we’ll give ourselves up. You can deal with us on your terms””
1 Samuel 11:11 “Long before dawn the next day, Saul had strategically placed his army in three groups. At first light they broke into the enemy camp and slaughtered Ammonites until noon. Those who were left ran for their lives, scattering every which way.” (MSG)
Saul rose up and sent a message to his brothers that help was on the way, and suddenly, the tears dried up and courage came! They all got set to defend their territory.
Friend, if you don’t fight you may lose your right eye! Loss of the eye simply means a loss of vision or focus.
