Fight -5
1 Samuel 11:1 “Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.”
1 Samuel 11:2 “And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this [condition] will I make [a covenant] with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it [for] a reproach upon all Israel.”
…From yesterday…
Back to our focal scripture, a terrible king once came up against the Israelites, by name Nahash. The name already has “harsh” in it. His aim was to beat the children of Israel into subjection and make them slaves, or better still, wipe them off this planet.
Unfortunately, the children of Israel, precisely the men of Jabesh, went begging. They begged him to enter into a covenant with them, promising to become his slaves!
1 Samuel 11:1 “Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.”
Friend, the devil does not understand the language of mercy, and to enter into a covenant with him is big trouble. You can never meet his demands. His options are always harsh, “Nahash” and wicked!
It will interest you to know that the name “Nahash” in the Hebrew means “to practice divination” or “serpent”. In other words, the men of Jabesh went to make a treaty with the devil!
What was the outcome? He gave them his terms of reference knowing full well they could not meet it. No man can meet the demands of the devil. If he gives you a bicycle, he can demand for your heart or kidneys. He is that wicked! These folks thought they could appease him, but how wrong they were.
In the same vein, the devil has thrown different attacks on several believers, but rather than fight, they keep looking for ways to appease him.
To be continued…
