1 Samuel 11:1 “Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.”



1 Samuel 11:2 “And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this [condition] will I make [a covenant] with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it [for] a reproach upon all Israel.”

When I was much younger, my mother normally advised me while going to school or going out normally not to fight. I can bet we all received such “good” advice at one time or the other. It is actually an advice that is good, but incomplete.
My spiritual father said, “The world belongs to fighters and you will not go far without the will and ability to fight”. The world, by design, belongs to fighters, and that means we just have to learn to fight.
Paul even state it categorically that we must fight! Hear him:
1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”
Many Christians have simply lost their will to fight and have given up on life. They have become puppets in the hand of the enemy.
One thing we must know categorically according to Paul is that there is a good fight and there is a bad fight. The problem is that most times we get things mixed up. We often do not understand our call to be fighters.
Many people correctly say that Christ has fought and won the battles of life for us, and so we need not do anything. That is correct, but as modern day believers we must know that we are armies of occupation, placed on earth to defend the victory that Jesus won!
The devil is a defeated powerless foe, but he is not stupid. Although he is powerless, he still has antics and tricks. In fact, he has devices!
2 Cor. 2:11 “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
