2 Corinthians 11:25 “Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;”
2 Corinthians 11:26 “[In] journeyings often, [in] perils of waters, [in] perils of robbers, [in] perils by [mine own] countrymen, [in] perils by the heathen, [in] perils in the city, [in] perils in the wilderness, [in] perils in the sea, [in] perils among false brethren;”
Apostle Paul is a man whose story never ceases to amaze me. He achieved greatness against all odds. From our focal scripture if I am to summarise his life in one word, I will simply say “Dogged”.
Dogged is a word meaning to be stubbornly persevering and  steadfast. It means unwillingness to yield or give up.
That was the man Paul. He did exploits which the world can never recover from. Even though he was never with Jesus physically when he was here on earth, his record surpassed that of the other Apostles that wine and dine with Jesus.
In looking critically at the life of Paul, we can clearly see his doggedness and tenacity as he went about his assignment.
In our focal scripture, Apostle Paul highlighted some of the things he went through and those things were scary. I kept asking myself what I will do if I were in Paul’s shoes. Can I withstand been beaten by rods, stoned, get involved in fatal accidents, attacked by armed robbers, betrayed by friends amd brethren in order to achieve my goals in life? Paul even went ahead and said:
2 Corinthians 11:27 “In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.”
Beloved have you ever asked yourself such questions? Can you suffer weariness, pains, hunger and thirst for your dreams? The challenge Apostle Paul is throwing to us in this piece is, “What are you ready to give up to achieve your dreams?”
To be continued…
