…From yesterday…
The next man I want us to learn from in this series, as we begin to round it up, is the man called Apostle Peter. Historians said he was the first Pope of the church. The truth of the matter is that he was the one Christ built and committed the church to and he didn’t fail heaven.
We know this truth because you and I are part of the universal church that God started through him, and the church is still standing. But for the church, I probably won’t be writing Lift and we definitely won’t be meeting for fellowships.
Peter, no doubt, was a great patriarch of the faith. He did some amazing things in righteousness. Thank God for all his exploits, but the lesson I want us to learn from him is that of bouncing back from failure and defeat.
Peter, the most popular disciple of Jesus, the most vocal, one of the closest to Jesus and the leader of the pack, one day denied Jesus. He denied ever knowing the Master, not once, but three times to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that the first time wasn’t a mistake. He knowingly did it!
Peter realised what he did after the cock crowed, just the way Jesus said it would happen, and he wept bitterly. At that point, one would think Peter would’ve learnt his lessons and then go back to the instructions of Jesus to him about building the church and organising the others. Not Peter!
His next move was equally appalling. He abandoned the call of God upon his life and went back to his old trade of fishing.
To be continued…
