Hebrews 6:12 “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
…From yesterday…
The next patriarch I want us to consider is our father, Father Abraham. The lesson I want us to pick from him are numerous, but I think I’ll like to focus on this particular one, becoming a risk taker.
It is very easy to read the story of Abraham today and conclude that he was the father of faith, and even feel we would have done the same if God had appeared to us. But, beloved, it was not that easy for the old man.
Consider the scenario: you were relaxing in your father’s house at the age of seventy five, and, suddenly, you heard a voice introducing Himself as God and asking you to drop all you’re doing and follow Him. To where? He just said “Follow me, I can’t tell you the place, but I will show you as we go and tell you when we get there!” How will you react?
Genesis 12:1 “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:”
Genesis 12:2 “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:”
Let’s even assume you managed to convince yourself, what will you tell your father, mother and most especially your wife!
How do you break such news? If they agreed it was God, but asked you where the destination was in case they wanted to visit you, but you went ahead and said you don’t know! I am sure all hell will be let loose.
Remember in those days, they didn’t have telephones, GPS or compass.
To be continued…
