One major lesson I learnt from the encounter (Study Matthew 4:3-11) between Jesus and the devil is that it is not only believers that know and study the bible! The devil didn’t come to Jesus quoting from a demonic book somewhere; all his references were from the bible!
Beloved, know the word like the palm of your hands and always rely on the leading and discernment of the Holy Spirit. I have seen innocent men and women led astray and deceived by the enemy simply by adding a little lie to the truth of the word. Friend, don’t just swallow all that you hear, be like the Berean Christians:
Acts 17:10 “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming [thither] went into the synagogue of the Jews.”
Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
Acts 17:11 “They were treated a lot better there than in Thessalonica. The Jews received Paul’s message with enthusiasm and met with him daily, examining the Scriptures to see if they supported what he said.”(MSG)
The bible says these folks didn’t just swallow what the “Great Apostle Paul” told them; they took time to crosscheck with the original instruction manual! No wonder they became more honourable than the others.
