Hebrews 12:2 “Keep your eyes on [Jesus], who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed–that exhilarating finish in and with God–he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s [there], in the place of honor, right alongside God.”(MSG)
…From yesterday…
Paul gave Timothy some hard truths and warnings here. Timothy was probably like most of us, looking for who would transfer grace by impartation. From the scriptures above, it was obvious that Paul laid hands on him, and he probably went for another anointing service where the Presbytery or church leaders also laid hands on him, and perhaps poured oil on him.
He even went and received some powerful words of prophecy from some great prophets in those days. I am sure you know what I am talking about.
But then Paul sat him down one day and told him, “Son Timothy, these things don’t just jump on people. Thank God for prophecy, laying on of hands and anointing. You’ve got to settle down, “give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.” Also, “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them”, it is then and only then that “…your profiting may appear to all.”
Look at the term Paul used there:
1 Timothy 4:15 “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.”
Paul said “that thy profiting MAY appear to all”. It simply means the level of his commitment at the place of meditation and study of the word determined the level of his profiting. If he didn’t do these things right, his profiting MIGHT never appear to all!
For any vision to become a reality, you must work it! Paul went ahead and told him to “…stir up the gift of God…” (2 Timothy 1:6).
To be continued…
