Extra Mile-6

Matthew 5:41 “And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.” (NKJV)
…From yesterday…
Remember, Moses prayed this prayer in Exodus 33:12, but guess what? The answer to his prayer and reason for the answer were in the preceding verse:
Exodus 33:11 “And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, DEPARTED NOT OUT of the tabernacle.”
Interesting! After an encounter with God, Moses left for home to rest as well as others, but Joshua chose to stay back in the tabernacle. He was not the only young man in Israel; we had the likes of Caleb, but he was the only one that did the extra!
The truth of the matter is that God does not sleep nor slumber; He is omnipresent. When others left, God was still in the tabernacle and it was only normal for Him to take note of Joshua who stayed back!
A few years down the line, God needed to answer Moses’ prayer for a successor and he simply picked the man who would put in the extra!
Another story that buttresses this point is the story of Elisha taking over the mantle of leadership from Elijah.
Elijah was a head prophet and had several sons of prophets around him. On the day he was to be taken up to heaven, all the sons of the prophet had the opportunity to receive double portion of his anointing, but failed except for Elisha. Elisha persevered and went the whole mile to lay hold on the mantle of Elijah.
He followed Elijah, to the extent that Elijah himself tried to discourage him, probably out of pity. But this man refused to give up; he put in the extra till he got the mantle.
Friend, it’s time to put in that extra effort in your office and business place. Be known for the extra, and in a matter of time, you will be recognised for greatness! Be the standout man, Selah!
