Breaking free from Madness-1
Mark 5:2 “And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,”
Mark 5:3 “He lived there among the tombs and graves. No one could restrain him–he couldn’t be chained, couldn’t be tied down.”
Mark 5:2 “As Jesus got out of the boat, a madman from the cemetery came up to him.” (MSG)
In the next couple of days, we will be analysing this interesting encounter as the Lord leads.
It is a story about the encounter between Jesus and this man of Gadarenes. In a deeper sense it was an encounter between Light and darkness, God and the devil.
We will meditate on this story and pick as many lessons as possible.
The setting was on the coast of Gadarenes. It happened immediately Jesus and his disciples alighted from the ship.
On stepping on the coast of Gaderenes they were met by this madman.
Bible scholars said this man was a real terror within the vicinity. They said he scatters wedding ceremonies, scatters the market and even burial ceremonies. They said sometimes people abandon dead bodies at the burial ground when he charges at them. He was such a terror. Some early writeups refer to him as the terror of Gaderenes.
What is madness?
Madness is defined as a state of exhibiting unsoundness or disorder of mind. Madness is used to define a person that is Insane; crazy, extremely angry, eccentric, wildly confused or excited, mentally deranged, extremely foolish or unwise; irrational; imprudent and abnormally ferocious.
Those are some heavy adjectives. Why have I decided to use those words? I brought out these adjectives because many people suffer from one form of madness or the other but they don’t know it. I trust God that in the next few meditations we will be exposing several of them so that we can take corrections.
To be continued…
