Keeping Mum-1
Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”
Isaiah 53:8 “He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.”
Beloved, I am not talking about you keeping your mum or mother in this meditation; I am talking about you keeping quiet and acting dumb.
The word mum is not just about your mother, it also means to act in pantomime or in a dumb show.
My father in the Lord has an interesting slogan that goes thus: “The strength of the oppressor is the quietness of the oppressed!” That’s a very profound statement, if you ask me.
Permit me to share the story of Rosa Parks with you. This was a black woman that literally held the whole of America to ransom because she decided to speak! She paralyzed business activities in a sector of the American transport system for over a year, and all she did was talk!
In the early and mid 1900s in America, there were serious cases of segregation between the Blacks and the Whites. It was so bad that when a white man boarded a bus he chose where to sit, and any black person already sitting there must stand up for him to sit!
It was an unwritten law that a white man could not be standing while a black man sat. Such was the situation on ground. Many blacks who were born at that time had concluded that nothing could be done about it; they accepted it as the norm.
But on that fateful day of December 1, 1955, this 40 year old black woman named Rosa Parks, a seamstress, decided enough was enough, and as a result spoke out and started a revolution!
To be continued…
