Helping Hand-7
Exodus 17:11 “It turned out that whenever Moses raised his hands, Israel was winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, Amalek was winning.”
Exodus 17:12 “But Moses’ hands got tired. So they got a stone and set it under him. He sat on it and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on each side. So his hands remained steady until the sun went down.”
Exodus 17:13 “Joshua defeated Amalek and its army in battle.” (MSG)
…From yesterday…
Moses’ hands became heavy. As anointed as he was, his physical strength failed him. Moses knew before time that it might come to this and therefore prepared for the moment. How, you may ask.
Moses had trained other leaders that he brought along on the trip. He knew he would not last the mile alone. His anointing didn’t deceive him into thinking he was a one-man-army, like Prophet Samson.
Beloved, God has made us to be intertwined and to make sure we always need each other. Nobody succeeds alone. If you’re a leader, you need others; don’t ever let your anointing, skill and wisdom seduce you into thinking you don’t need anybody. We have seen leaders in history discard men and pay dearly for it.
Don’t ever get yourself into that position.
I took a critical look at the first phrase in Exodus 17:12; studied it and discovered something interesting.
Exodus 17:12 “But Moses’ hands [were] HEAVY…”
The word “heavy” as used here has some very interesting meanings. I have grouped the meanings into two, the first set says, “it means to be grievous, be dull, slow, sore, stop.”
In the journey of life, we will all come to a place that will slow us down, wear us out and make us sore and dull. That is why we must always have men that can help out in the pursuit of our assignments. A time will come you’ll feel like stopping, even against your will, because you’re helpless.
To be continued…
