This Book of the Law-3
Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
The twelve of them saw those giants in the land, the sons of Anak, probably the forefathers of Goliath! Joshua and Caleb were also men of like passions… they were scared too but they believed their pastor (Moses) and his God! They knew that whatever God told pastor Moses would come to pass.
They had seen their pastor and his God work wonders! They relied fully on the ability of the God of Moses; so nothing to fear!
But then their pastor was dead and God told Joshua to step into his shoes and take the people into their inheritance! Friend, for Joshua that was a very tall order! It scared the daylight out of him!
How do I know Joshua was scared and terrified? Hear this:
Joshua 1:6 “Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.”
Joshua 1:7 “Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it [to] the right hand or [to] the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9 “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
I doubt if God ever spoke about courage to any other man in bible history the way he did to Joshua. It is only a scared man you give such exhortations several times! Can you imagine God telling you the same thing over and over again?
To be continued…
