Praise with Understanding-9
Psalms 47:7 “For God [is] the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.”
…From yesterday…
He praised God, appreciating God for who He is and for where He had brought him! He was grateful for what he had and where he was. This guy was not in a hurry to do levitical cleansing in order to be re-absorbed into the society, he knew God and had enough sense to know that man is limited and will always call him a “once-upon-a-time” beggar, even though healed!
The very first thing he did was to “turn back” from men who would abuse him tomorrow, men who would reluctantly re-absorb him, who would give him $10 today and claim it was $100 tomorrow, men who would say, “I made him!”
Luke 17:15 “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back…”
This guy sure knows how to give praise with understanding. Look at what happened next:
Luke 17:16 “And fell down on [his] face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.”
Luke 17:17 “And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where [are] the nine?”
Luke 17:18 “There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.”
Luke 17:19 “And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.”
He didn’t just turn back from the priest; he went back to God (Jesus). The bible says he was a Samaritan! The Jews didn’t really absorb the Samaritans into their community; they always saw them as inferior and unwanted.
That’s a story for another day, however, here is where I am going; the Jews always had a superiority problem; they were so proud of their achievements and felt it was their prowess or know how that get the job done.
They always left God out of every success and achievements, whereas this Samaritan had a different understanding; he knew that all his achievements centred on God.
To be continued…
