Jonah Syndrome-2
Jonah 1:1 “Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,”
Jonah 1:2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.”
Jonah 1:3 “But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.”
…From yesterday…
The focus of this piece however is not on cooperation and those other elements of success but on the “Jonahs of your life”.
What do I mean by this? Who are these Jonahs? How do I handle them?
In our focal scripture, God saw the iniquity and wickedness of Nineveh, a great city, and God knew trouble was brewing for them. God knew they would self-destruct if something was not done fast. In order to prevent this, He raised up a prophet, His own prophet to go and warn them and restore them back to the path of righteousness. God does not love the death of a sinner.
Here is where I am going. Jonah, a supposed prophet of God, refused the assignment bluntly! He headed south, when he was supposed to head north! Put differently, Jonah held unto the salvation of Nineveh, instead of releasing it to them!
Friend, Jonahs are still very much around in our days! How do you describe that your boss is holding onto your letter of promotion? That man that knows you’re looking for work but refuses to tell you they are employing in that big company because it was not his area of expertise.
That woman that knows where you can get those products cheaper but refuses to divulge the information to you. That your “friend” that bought a land at a choice place but refused to tell you about it, even though he knows you also need a land!
The world is full of them. Note that in this case Jonah was a prophet!
To be continued…
