Right Motives-5

Philippians “1:15 It’s true that some here preach Christ because with me out of the way, they think they’ll step right into the spotlight. But the others do it with the best heart in the world.”
Philippians 1:16 “One group is motivated by pure love, knowing that I am here defending the Message, wanting to help.”
Philippians 1:17 “The others, now that I’m out of the picture, are merely greedy, hoping to get something out of it for themselves. Their motives are bad. They see me as their competition, and so the worse it goes for me, the better–they think–for them.” (MSG)
…From yesterday…
2 Corinthians 5:9 “But neither exile nor homecoming is the main thing. Cheerfully pleasing God is the main thing, and that’s what we aim to do, regardless of our conditions.”(MSG)
Wherever we are, whatever we do, one thing we must strive to do is to please God! Once our motive is to please Him and bring glory to His name, He backs us up and our actions turns out right before Him!
Let us consider Joseph and Mrs. Potiphar:
Genesis 39:8 “But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what [is] with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;”
Genesis 39:9 “[There is] none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou [art] his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
Joseph didn’t sleep with Mrs Portiphar because she was his master’s wife; he didn’t sleep with her because the action would displease God!
His focus was not man; his motive was to please God by not sinning against Him. When our focus is on man we become pretentious, but when our aim is to please God, we always get it right before men.
Finally on this piece, let’s consider another motive that will always produce a right action.
To be continued…
