Right Motives-2

Philippians “1:15 It’s true that some here preach Christ because with me out of the way, they think they’ll step right into the spotlight. But the others do it with the best heart in the world.”
Philippians 1:16 “One group is motivated by pure love, knowing that I am here defending the Message, wanting to help.”
Philippians 1:17 “The others, now that I’m out of the picture, are merely greedy, hoping to get something out of it for themselves. Their motives are bad. They see me as their competition, and so the worse it goes for me, the better–they think–for them.” (MSG)
…From yesterday…
1 John 4:7 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”
1 John 4:8 “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
If love is what drives or motivates you, you simply can’t be wrong and your actions will always be sanctioned by God. Beloved, before doing anything, ask yourself if it is motivated by love or self. If it is motivated by love, it is simply motivated by God!
So how do I know if my actions are motivated by love?
1 Corinthians 13:4 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”
Check your actions against the above scripture and it will reveal your motive. If you are doing something to show “you have arrived and compete with your friends” it simply shows pride, arrogance and envy and that is a wrong motive! Lack of patience and kindness are also wrong motives.
1 Corinthians 13:5 “It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”(NIV)
1 Corinthians 13:5 “Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,” (MSG)
