Right Motives-1
Philippians “1:15 It’s true that some here preach Christ because with me out of the way, they think they’ll step right into the spotlight. But the others do it with the best heart in the world.”
Philippians 1:16 “One group is motivated by pure love, knowing that I am here defending the Message, wanting to help.”
Philippians 1:17 “The others, now that I’m out of the picture, are merely greedy, hoping to get something out of it for themselves. Their motives are bad. They see me as their competition, and so the worse it goes for me, the better–they think–for them.” (MSG)
In the past couple of days we have been considering the subject of motives; we have looked at different things that motivate people to act the way they do.
In our focal scripture for today, Apostle Paul revealed greed, selfishness and attention for the spotlight as things that equally motivate people to act.
However, in the next couple of days we will look at the concept of right motives. What are right motives and what should be our driving force? What should motivate us to act in order for our actions to be acceptable to God?
In our focal scripture, Apostle Paul made mention of a powerful motivating force that should drive every child of God. It is called love.
Paul gave kudos to some group of people for being motivated by what he called “…pure love…” The truth is there is no way we can be motivated by pure love and go wrong! The simple reason is because “…God is love…”(1 John 4:8).
The bible didn’t say here that God has love; it says, “God is love”. This is one thing that distinguishes Christianity from every other religion. Love is a phenomenon that lacks human explanation. It is a force that “should drive” every child of God.
To be continued…
