Motives-14

John 12:3 “Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.”
John 12:4 “Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s [son], which should betray him,”
John 12:5 “Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?”
John 12:6 “This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.”
…From yesterday…
John 8:9 “And they which heard it, BEING CONVICTED BY THEIR OWN CONSCIENCE, WENT OUT ONE BY ONE, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.”
Jesus knew their hearts. A bible scholar said when Jesus bent down, he was probably writing each person’s sin on the ground! The interesting thing here however is that the bible says, “…being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one…” (John 8:9).
Convicted by their own conscience simply means their real motives stared them in the face! I won’t be surprised if some of them “secretly desired the woman”!
John 8:10 “When Jesus had lifted up himself and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?”
In order not to be embarrassed by the great prophet if he revealed their own motives, they quietly dropped their stones and ran away!
WHEN CONFRONTED WITH YOUR MOTIVES, WILL YOU DROP THE STONE OR CAST IT?
When that lady knows why you have been good to her, how will she feel? Are you doing it for God’s sake or for ulterior motives?
If your boss knew why you keep coming around him, what would be his reaction? Are you coming around him to steal his trade secret or to be a blessing to the organization?
To be continued…
