John 12:3 “Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.”
John 12:4 “Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s [son], which should betray him,”
John 12:5 “Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?”
John 12:6 “This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.”
…From yesterday…
I love the way Jesus handled the issue of the woman caught in the act of adultery.
John 8:4 “They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery in the very act.”
John 8:5 “Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned but what sayest thou?”
John 8:6 “THIS THEY SAID TEMPTING HIM, that they might have to ACCUSE HIM. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.”
John 8:7 “So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, HE THAT IS WITHOUT SIN AMONG YOU, LET HIM FIRST CAST A STONE AT HER.”
John 8:8 “And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.”
These folks were very “righteous” by their own standard, but not by God’s standard. Yes the woman was caught in the very physical “act;” they were all very eager to stone her to death, even though they didn’t bring the man.
Jesus didn’t argue with them, he simply asked the one without sin to cast the first stone. What happened next is very interesting:
John 8:9 “And they which heard it, BEING CONVICTED BY THEIR OWN CONSCIENCE, WENT OUT ONE BY ONE, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.”
To be continued…
