John 12:3 “Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.”
John 12:4 “Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s [son], which should betray him,”
John 12:5 “Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?”
John 12:6 “This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.”
…From yesterday…
Meanwhile, Samuel was grieved and so decided to confront Saul with the allegations but guess what Saul told the prophet:
1 Samuel 15:13 “And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed [be] thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.”
1 Samuel 15:15 “And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, TO SACRIFICE UNTO the LORD THY God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.”
Saul’s statement looked harmless on the surface, in fact, it looks justified, but he betrayed his inner motive. He confirmed what God had told Samuel. He said “…to sacrifice to the Lord thy God…”. It was no longer the Lord our God!
Motives are very powerful, Beloved always pay careful attention to what people say. (I’m not however saying you should always read negative meaning to people’s statements #smile)
Be weary of people like Saul, who have stopped following God but covering up with religious acts.
Look at another set of guys. These were direct words of Jesus. He fished these folks out so that we can learn from them. Hear him:
Matthew 6:1 “Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.”
