Motives-1

John 12:3 “Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.”
John 12:4 “Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s [son], which should betray him,”
John 12:5 “Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?”
Motive is an incentive to act in a particular way; a reason or emotion that makes one want to do something. Motive can also be described as anything that prompts a choice of action.
Motives are what motivate us and gives us reasons to do or not to do things. Motive is what helps us to overcome the force of inertia.
Isaac Newton said all object remain in a state of rest until a force is applied. That force in this case is what I call motive and it can be internal or external.
I remember getting home late one night and was dozing off when one of my favourite programmes came up on television. I had finished watching it before remembering I was tired. The tiredness disappeared. I had a stronger reason to keep awake compared to how my body was feeling.
Our motives are the “secret reasons” behind our actions! We may camouflage it and pretend about it but deep down in the corner of our heart lies the real reason for our actions.
The interesting thing is that we can keep our motives away from fellow humans and they see our actions as genuine and selfless but then, there is He who sees deep into the secret things!
God sure doesn’t see the way man sees, He does better than that. Hear this:
1 Samuel 16:7 “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
