Watch Your Association-3
Proverbs 13:20 “He that walketh with wise [men] shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
Proverbs 13:20 “Walk with wise people and become wise; befriend fools and get in trouble.” (CEB)
Proverbs 13:20 “Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.” (MSG)
To a large extent, our associations are contagious, meaning that both wisdom and folly are contagious! Our association with a fool tends to diminish our ability to discern truth from error and wisdom from folly.
Let us learn one or two things about a fool so that you can easily recognize them, and, perhaps, if you have some as friends you can knock them off your list of intimate pals.
Somebody said to me, “I have these folks as friends, if I decide to change them now as my very close friends they will think I have become proud.” I said it’s true; but the truth is which will you prefer, remain like them or become what God want you to be? He got the message!
Back to our characteristics of fools:
Psalm 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
King Solomon spoke extensively about fools, but perhaps he learnt most of what he knew about fools from his dad. In the above scripture, King David said the first thing to take note about fools is that they say there is no God!
Well, most fools might not come out boldly to say that, but their characters and actions will tell you they are actually saying so in their hearts.
King David said they are corrupt; they do abominable works and tell you it doesn’t matter, after all everybody doing it; in fact everybody does wrong and bad things, nobody does good. They tell you going corrupt and doing abominable things is what rich people did that gave them wealth!
