Drop the Weight; Travel Light-4
Hebrews 12:1 “THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run…the race that is set before us,” (AMP)
…From yesterday…
I had a clearer understanding of this scripture when I saw it in the Message translation:
John 20:23 “If you forgive someone’s sins, they’re gone for good. If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?”
If you don’t forgive but decide to retain sin, you’re simply going to be running with extra luggage! Unforgiveness is simply an unnecessary weight, too big to run with.
Paul went ahead and mentioned some other weights such as envy, wraths, strifes, backbitings, tumults, living in malice, hateful, hating one another but then he told us what to do with them, “STRIP OFF and THROW ASIDE”!
Life’s race is tedious, why add to the burden and make yourself uncomfortable?
Another weight we carry is called worry. Jesus taught his disciples a very important lesson on this one. Like we saw three days back, he told them:
Matthew 10:9 “Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,”
Matthew 10:10 “Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.”
Jesus is simply teaching that as you run the race of life, supplies have been provided as at and when due. Don’t weigh yourself down; as you run, supply awaits you at every junction.
Just like in a marathon race, people are strategically positioned to give the athletes water, energy drinks, etc.
Friend, don’t worry; God’s got your back!
Matthew 6:8 “…your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”
Beloved, remember to put the glass of water down, Selah!
