Drop the Weight; Travel Light-1
Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” (NLT)
Like we’ve discussed severally, life itself is a race or a journey. I have taken out time severally to check out some athletes, both in the sprints and the long distance, and I discovered something interesting.
I discovered that these athletes, especially those on long distance races, run very light. What do I mean? I’ve noticed that despite the fact that they’ll be running for several miles or kilometres, they only appear at the stadium in their singlet, running pants, socks and spikes. They know they might need money and especially water on the way, yet they don’t bother with such stuffs. They just appear casual and light.
The athlete knows that for him to run well, compete well and win the race, there must be no additional weight! He must travel very light!
Jesus knew this as well, so he gave the disciples a similar advice while sending them out. He said:
Matthew 10:9 “Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,”
Matthew 10:10 “Nor scrip for [your] journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.”
Jesus simply advised them to travel very light. He told them not to worry about anything whatsoever.
I read a story that blessed me so much recently; I believe it can help me drive the point home. Here is it:
A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question.
