The Home Stretch-1

1 Kings 1:1 “Now king David was old [and] stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.”
1 Kings 1:5 “Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.”
In athletics, the Home Stretch is the final part of a race course from the last curve to the finish line. It is also the final part of a distance or the FINAL EFFORT NEEDED to FINISH.
It is at the home stretch that races are won and lost. Sometimes you see an athlete doing so well from the beginning but, suddenly, he fades away at the home stretch.
Life is like a marathon race; so also is the journey of the year 2015. Friend, I am glad to announce to you that we have entered the home stretch of this great and exciting year. I am also glad to let you know that a lot of great things can and will still happen for you in this great year.
Let’s glean some lessons from our focal scripture. This story is one that is so touching and pathetic.
David was old and visibly at the end of his life. The great warrior was now weak and tired. The once vibrant giant killer has now become a shadow of himself. The one that slaughtered the lion and the bear was now looking pale like a powerless lion.
The man of war is now looking like a victim of war! How sad! To be sure all these assumptions about David were right, some people led by his over ambitious son, Adonijah, ganged up to test his resolve. They sent him a virgin knowing full well that David seemed to have a weakness along that line. To their amazement, David didn’t touch her and so they became confident that this “once upon a time warrior” had lost the touch that gave him so much fame and recognition.
To be continued…
