I still want Rachel-1
Genesis 29:26 “And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.”
Genesis 29:27 “Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.”
Genesis 29:28 “And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.”
For the past few days we have x-rayed some of the causes of disappointment. I believe God has opened our eyes to several key issues. Let’s hang the causes up for now and look at what to do when given Leah and still get our Rachel.
The truth is, no matter what the devil throws at us in form of Leah, we can still get Rachel! Jacob did it; Joseph did it; Joshua did it; you and I can do it!
So, “What do I do now that I have been given Leah instead of Rachel?” In other words, how do I handle disappointments?
Knowing how to handle disappointment is something we must learn and be skillful at since disappointment do show up from time to time despite our careful planning and execution.
Let’s go back to the story of Jacob and Laban. Laban ran out of options and had to let go of Rachel eventually, we can learn one or two things from Jacob.
The first thing to do in such situations is to relax! Don’t press the panic button. Jacob could have become apprehensive, bitter and quarrelsome but rather he chose to calm down.
Genesis 29:27 “Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.”
Genesis 29:28 “And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.”
The bible says in Gen. 29:28, “And Jacob did so…” He calmed down, took correction and started again.
To be continued…
