Genesis 29:25 “And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it [was] Leah: and he said to Laban, What [is] this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?”
…From yesterday…
You had a dream to marry a tall handsome man or a very beautiful lady like Rachel but failed to see their imperfections. We neglect their weaknesses only to marry and start regretting.
Marriage is the coming together of two imperfect people who have made up their minds to make it work and stay together for better for worse. They decided to accept their ugly sides as well as the beautiful sides, and make things work!
Many a times we get carried away by the fancy side of our dream:
the pleasant and the beautiful sides. We completely neglect the ugly side, in fact we don’t want to hear it. We don’t want that part.
Friend, your dream will get you dirty! You must be ready to fold up your sleeves and work at your dream. As a local saying goes, “he that want to eat honey from a rock must not be bothered about the number of strikes he needs to make with his axe”.
The fancy side and the ugly side are both sides of the same coin. Remember both Leah and Rachel were from the same parents!
Joseph got carried away by the fancy side, he focused on the throne, the sun and moon bowing down for him. He didn’t see the pit, the slavery, the lies, the service to be rendered, etc.
Friend, your dream will cost you something! When the ugly side shows up, hold on because it is not Leah you want; it is Rachel!
The other reason I’ll like to show you is what I call failed promises.
Failed promises is one terrible reason why Leah shows up in place of Rachel. Men of timber and calibre promise you heaven and earth. They arouse your hope and aspirations but all of a sudden they fail!
