Luke 12:16 “Then he told them this story: “The farm of a certain rich man produced a terrific crop.”
Luke 12:17 “He talked to himself: ‘What can I do? My barn isn’t big enough for this harvest.'”
Luke 12:18 “Then he said, ‘Here’s what I’ll do: I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll gather in all my grain and goods,”
Luke 12:19 “and I’ll say to myself, Self, you’ve done well! You’ve got it made and can now retire. Take it easy and have the time of your life!'”
Luke 12:20 “Just then God showed up and said, ‘Fool! Tonight you die. And your barnful of goods, who gets it?’ (MSG)
Let me share a story with you: There was once a very successful fisherman. For close to a year he would sail to sea, make a good catch and easily sail back to shore.
Once he sets his sail, the wind would aid the motion of his boat and he would make an easy ride back to shore. Within a year he bought a bigger boat and the business expanded. He became rich and powerful.
All of a sudden, the once humble fisherman became arrogant and puffed up. He began to speak disrespectfully to people because he had become a power broker of some sort in his community.
A wise man approached him and advised him to take it easy; he told him there was an invisible hand that had been helping him with the sail and catch. But our friend got angry and ordered the man out of his sight.
Before that however, he told the old man and the people around that he would go to sea that night and requested them all to come back in the morning to see his catch. He believed so much in his sailing skill, knowledge of the ocean and technical know how.
That night he went to sea as usual, made a great catch but as he made for the shore, a boisterous wind arose!
He battled for several hours but the wind was contrary. Water entered the ship and it began to sink.
