Luke 15:29 “The son said, ‘Look how many years I’ve stayed here serving you, never giving you one moment of grief, but have you ever thrown a party for me and my friends?” (MSG)
…From yesterday…
Don’t steal ideas and claim them to be yours; it’s part of the unthankfulness we are talking about! People who do that don’t get to the top and if they do, they don’t last there. Beware!
Back to Mordecai, the king investigated the matter after Esther reported and found it to be true. The offenders were punished but then, the man who revealed it, thus saving the king’s life, was forgotten. The best they did was to write his name and what he did in “the book of the chronicles before the king.” (Esther 2:23)
I can imagine what was going on in his mind. Like many of us, we think the king should have elevated him to become one of his personal body gurads; put him in charge of a province or at the least move him from the gate and free him as a slave.
But, friends none of these happened!
To make matters worse, a subject of the king called Haman succeded in getting the king’s approval to kill Mordecai and destroy his lineage! What a wicked and unthankful world! Hear this:
Esther 3:8 “And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws [are] diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it [is] not for the king’s profit to suffer them.”
Esther 3:9 “If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring [it] into the king’s treasuries.”
Haman was even ready to pay a bribe to make sure the plot went through! He used his personal resources to influence the King’s sense of judgement!
