Esther 2:23 “And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.”
Mordecai, heard of a plot to kill the king, this was the most powerful king on earth as of then. The Bible says his kingdom spread from India to Ethiopia!
Esther 1:1 “Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this [is] Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, [over] an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)”
That was a remarkable feat by a single man, to rule over such an expansive empire. But then two of his guards plotted to kill him. Unfortunately for them a seemingly unknown and unrecognised gatekeeper heard about the “coup”. Rather than team up with the plotters for a handsome reward, he rushed to the queen who happened to be his niece and revealed the plot.
Esther on her part reported the matter to the king. She however did something remarkable; she told the king it was Mordecai who uncovered the plot.
Esther 2:22 “But Mordecai learned of the plot and told Queen Esther, who then told King Xerxes, GIVING CREDIT to MORDECAI.”
That was something great Esther did there; she gave credit to whom it was due. She never “cornered” the glory to herself. I think that’s something we should pick up from Esther. She wanted the right man to be compensated. Don’t be the one who rises to the top at the expense of another.
Don’t steal ideas and claim them to be yours; it’s part of the unthankfulness we are talking about! People who do that don’t get to the top and if they do, they don’t last there, beware!
