Genesis 37:5 “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told [it] his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.”
Genesis 37:11 “And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.”
…From yesterday…Hatred and envy are like siamese twins that are inseparable. You always find the two go hand in hand. The sad part however is that it is not limited to the unbelievers it can be found in church as well,
Philippians 1:15 “Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:”
Romans 1:29 “Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,”
1 Corinthians 3:3 “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?”
You see this same warning in James, Galatians, in fact all through the epistles. It’s a destructive sin and as believers we must not be ignorant of it.
It existed in the days of the Apostles and it’s still rampant in our days, we must be on guard against it. Remember, the people that wanted using hatred and envy to stop Joseph were not unbelieving strangers, they were his brethren.
Envy and hatred when left unchecked, leads to murder, hear this:
Genesis 37:19 “And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.”
Genesis 37:20 “Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.”
This is a serious issue! His brethren because of envy and hatred decided to kill him for just one reason, “…and we shall see what will become of his dreams.”
They just wanted to truncate and terminate his dream, oh how terrible the devil can be…To be continued…
