Wrong Company-1
2 Chronicles 20:35 “And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:”
2 Chronicles 20:36 “And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongeber.”
2 Chronicles 20:37 “Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.”
After the gubernatorial result of a particular state was declared during the just concluded elections in Nigeria, a fantastic candidate lost by a slight margin. He was very brilliant, articulate and intellectually sound. I saw some of his adverts and I must confess, his public relations people were fantastic. They were pure genius!
He sure has a vision and meant well for his people but he lost! He made a good show and fought gallantly but had to concede defeat at the end of the day.
After the results were announced, some group of analysts were asked to comment on why the seemingly wonderful candidate that looks like the people’s choice lost. Several reasons were given for the loss but at the end of the day they all came to a unanimous conclusion, “He lost because he was in the wrong company!”
In our focal scripture for today, Jehoshaphat, king of Judah just did some outstanding things for his people with the help of God. He was a man who believed so much in God and relied completely on Him for his deliverance and that of his people.
Jehoshaphat was one king apart from David, Joshua and a few others who used Praise as a deadly weapon against the enemy. He maximised praise as a weapon and finished off three countries without a fight! He went to war as a spectator…To be continued
