Zechariah 11:12 “Then I addressed them: “Pay me what you think I’m worth.” They paid me an insulting sum, counting out thirty silver coins.”
Zechariah 11:13 “GOD told me, “Throw it in the poor box.” This stingy wage was all they thought of me and my work! So I took the thirty silver coins and threw them into the poor box in GOD’s Temple.” (MSG)
Permit me to share this hilarious story with you. I read it some times back and I think it will be a good prelude to our new topic:
A son thought of a wonderful birthday present to give his aging mum. He thought for a long time before he came up with a fantastic idea. He knew his mum love to read the bible but due to her age she couldn’t see very well again, so he decided to send her a remarkable parrot.
This parrot was one of a kind. It can recite the entire Bible! In fact it took the elders of the church 12 years to teach it how to do that. All his mum need do is to tell the bird the chapter, the verse and it recites it.
In addition to that, the parrot can also speak 11 different languages! It was a dream bird! The bird cost the young man a whooping sum of $12,000. Since it was for his mum he didn’t mind, he sent it to her with a beautiful birthday card.
A day after the birthday, he placed a long distance call to his mum to find out about the bird, her mum’s answer nearly gave him a heart attack!
“What did you think of the bird, Mama?” he asked.
His mum answered with so much excitement, “Son, it was delicious! ”
Hmmmmm…his mum simply made peppered soup with the parrot! She saw the parrot and the only thing she saw was the value it will add to her pot and tummy.
This is how most of us behave. We place less value on very valuable things and people. We treat people and things with levity. Most people have very poor value system and it shows in all they do…To be continued
