Judges 6:14 “And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?”
Judges 6:15 “And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family [is] poor in Manasseh, and I [am] the least in my father’s house.”
Permit me to share this story by Soren Kierkegaard as told by Mike Glenn with you as we start this piece on self-image.
The story was about some thieves who broke into a jewelry store and didn’t steal anything! They broke in neatly and left as neatly as they entered without taking anything, yet by the evening of the following day they were very rich. Most of the expensive jewelries from that store became theirs for little or nothing! The question is how did they do it?
They employed a simple strategy, they broke in and simply rearranged the price tags. The next morning, the expensive jewelries were sold as junk, and the junk jewelries sold as expensive. Your guess is as good as mine, they were the first in the shop and made the purchases.
Beloved, this is a strategy the devil employs in dealing with men and women on daily basis. If the devil can get you to change or doubt your real value, he has worn! The devil simply rearranges the price tag on men, making them feel worthless, settling for peanuts.
In our focal scripture, the Midianites entered Israel and changed their price tag.
Judges 6:6 “And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites…”
They impoverished Israel and did it so well that a man of valour by name Gideon, forgot completely who he was!
Judges 6:12 “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD [is] with thee, thou mighty man of valour.”
Gideon was a great man by design. He was a general who was to be commanding troops, defending the land and the people. But…To be continued
