Genesis 12:1 “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:”
Genesis 12:2 “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:”
Genesis 12:4 “So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram [was] seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.”
How do you tell a 75year old man to relocate? To leave a place where he had lived probably since birth. A place where three square meals was guaranteed. A place where he doesn’t pay for accommodation nor worry about security. That was a brief description of Abram’s comfort zone.
But then, God visited him one day and told him to quit his comfort zone and to make matters worse, Abram was to go to a place where “He will show him!” In simple English, leave certainty for uncertainty!
The interesting thing however is that most times when God want to bless a man, he moves him from where he is to where he’s suppose to be. He moves him from his present situation to a better one but the truth is, it is not easy. It can be very discomforting I must confess.
The gist however is that this is the principle of God. Our comfort zone are those places we hold unto tenaciously. We defend those places because they offer us some level of comfort and fulfilment quite alright but God is saying there are better places, there are far more better lands to conquer.
Hear this:
Joshua 13:1 “Now Joshua was old [and] stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old [and] stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.”
