Strength in quietness-3

Isaiah 30:15 “For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength…”
Hmmmm…a lot of noise all around Elijah. The rock was breaking, there was a terrible windstorm, then earthquake and fire but God was not in them! The voice of the Lord came in a “gentle wisper!”
1 Kings 19:12 “And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.”
1 Kings 19:13 “When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?””
Just like in our story, the world is full of noise, in fact in many modern cities, there are acceptable “noise levels”. You can be arrested for breaking the noise rule, very interesting but the truth is we have come to accept noise as a part of our lives.
However, God said, “…in quietness lies your strength…”. God is saying if you need this kind of strength, be calm, serene, free from emotional and mental disturbance. Hear this:
Psalms 62:1 “I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him.” (NLT)
Psalms 46:10 “Be still, and know that I [am] God…”
God is saying as long as you cannot seperate yourself from the noise and turbulence all around you, you cannot hear me and I will not be able to help you.
I remember a story I read about a mountain climber. He was climbing a very high mountain all alone relying so much on his skills and expertise. All of a sudden he missed his step, his hand slipped and he began to fall. In his mind he felt the end had come and knew only a miracle could save him. At that moment he said a simple prayer, “God help me”.
Almost immediately, he stopped falling…To be continued
