Capacity Building-2
Isaiah 54:2 “Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes”
Isaiah 54:3 “For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.”
There was this interesting encounter between a poor widow and Prophet Elijah. This woman was in debt, a debt incurred by her late husband who was also a beliver. But, unlike her late husband, she was smart enough to call Elisha to help her out. The servant of God gave her specific instructions. Hear this:
2 Kings 4:3 “Here’s what you do,” said Elisha. “Go up and down the street and borrow jugs and bowls from all your neighbors. And not just a few–all you can get.”
2 Kings 4:4 “Then come home and lock the door behind you, you and your sons. Pour oil into each container; when each is full, set it aside.”
2 Kings 4:5 “She did what he said. She locked the door behind her and her sons; as they brought the containers to her, she filled them.”
2 Kings 4:6 “When all the jugs and bowls were full, she said to one of her sons, “Another jug, please.” He said, “That’s it. There are no more jugs.” Then the oil stopped.” (MSG)
They did just as Elisha commanded but unfortunately they limited and truncated the miracle process because they lacked capacity! They went out borrowed some containers, just few, I can guess what likely happened.
What she had at home was a small container of oil and she was instructed to start pouring oil from the small container into the bigger ones. “Naturally” and “logically”, you pour oil from bigger containers into the smaller ones not the other way round.
What stopped the miracle was not the few containers, it was their mindset! To be continued…
