Get out of your way! (1)

Romans 7:19 “I decide to do good, but I don’t really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway.”
Romans 7:20 “My decisions, such as they are, don’t result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.”
It was D.L. Moody who made a statement that puzzled me the first time I read it. He said, “I have had more trouble with D.L. Moody than with any other man I have ever met.” A very interesting statement you would agree.
In our focal scripture for the day, the great Apostle Paul seems to be affirming this fact. Apostle Paul was talking about himself and the problems he was having with Apostle Paul! An appalling statement you would say, but the truth is we have serious issues with ourselves more than we will ever have with any other person.
If you can tame you, you can actually achieve your greatest dreams. The problem with most of us however is that we don’t do a self assessment. We get carried away by our little achievements and develop an arrival mentality. We push the problems we are having with ourselves on others. Blaming them for our stagnancy and problems. When in actual sense we can stand up and do something about it.
There is this popular encounter between Jesus and an impotent man, who has suffered for 38 long years. Hear this:
John 5:5 “And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.”
John 5:6 “When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time [in that case], he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?”
John 5:7 “The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.”
John 5:8 “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”
John 5:9 “And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked”
