Develop your gifts-1

2 Timothy 1:6 “That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you…” (AMP)

Now, you know very well that you have quality gifts and talents, there is yet another thing you need to know and do. That is to ‘stir it up’. To stir up your gifts mean to rekindle them, develop them, activate them and to make them useful. Resident in all of us are giant gift embers, some are using them as dwarfs, while some have allowed them to grow completely cold. How do we activate them and bring them back to life?
Paul picked out the word ‘stir up’ from making local fire; he talked about fanning to flame or rekindling a fire that is almost out. Recently, I was waiting at a junction for a friend and there was this woman trying to roast corn. She put some charcoal in a basin, got the corn and then picked up a locally made hand fan. I was watching her with keen interest. She stood up and started fanning the seemingly ‘dead black’ charcoal, which still has some embers. She kept fanning and after sometime I saw smoke coming from the charcoal. Tears were coming out from her eyes, obviously from the smoke but she didn’t stop, she kept at it until the black charcoal became red hot. At that point the smoke went off, then for the first time she sat down, arranged the corn on the red hot fire and began the roasting process. Then I got a graphic picture of this scripture!
Friend, several people can sing, with beautiful voices but yet very poor. Go listen to the choir in your village if you don’t believe me. There are a lot of intelligent poor folks who you can only find at beer parlors wasting away. I know people who when they enter a place, energy enters, all others seem to find strength and motivation from them, yet they don’t even know it’s a gift. So, what makes the difference between the great and the underachievers?
