Listen to your gifts-1

Acts 3:6 “But Peter said, ‘I don’t have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, get up and start walking.'” (CEV)
“I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth I will apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.” Og Mandino
Starting up with the words of Mandino again. He promised himself to “strain his potential till it cries for mercy”. This is one thing most of us fail to do. We look at our gifts and think what can this do. My friend can sing like an angel, the other one have the strength of Samson and the intelligence of Solomon, the speed of Usain Bolt, the oratory of Martin Luther King, Jr., yet here I’m without any talent.
Hmmm…how sad. We are always quick to know what we cannot do as compared to what we can. We seem intimidated by the skills and gifting of others, that we do forget we also have gifts worth celebrating. We forget that those other people made out time to discover and develop their own gifts. They didn’t just become successful overnight, there was a process.
Many of us are so carried away with what we don’t have that we forget completely what we do have. Yes you may not have the silver and the gold but what you do have is of far more value.
In our text, Peter and John met a lame beggar, they could have left the man and walked into the temple but on this day they didn’t. The truth is, that was not the first time they’ve been seeing that folk. They must have passed by him several times in the past. But, thank God for that day. It is the day I call ‘Day of Discovery’.
